Rachel Emily Nichols was born in Augusta, Maine, the daughter of Alison and James Nichols, a schoolteacher. Nichols has English, French Canadian, German, Irish, Italian and Scottish heritage. Cony High School was her high school in Augusta. She graduated with a diploma in math and a high jump that was competitive. Columbia University in New York City was where she received two degrees in math and economics. She began modeling and launched an impressive modeling career being employed by prominent firms like Guess?, Abercrombie & Fitch or L'Oreal. Rachel became an actor after securing a role on the HBO situation comedy Sex and the City (1998) when she made her first audition. Her first film appearance was as Jessica Matthews in Dumb and Dumberer: The Story of How Harry met Lloyd (2003). Success continued with roles in such projects like The Amityville Horror (2005), The Inside (2005), Alias (2001), G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra (2009), Criminal Minds (2005) (a regular part as FBI Agent Ashley Seaver) and Conan the Barbarian (2011). She played the lead role of police officer Kiera Cameron in the science fiction series Continuum (2012).Attended and graduated from Columbia University with a double major in economics and math.
